Reel Newz Briefs:

DISNEY has announced that Star Wars: Episode IX will be released on May 24, 2019.  The studio also revealed that its live-action remake of The Lion King will open on July 19, 2019 and the sequel Frozen 2 is set for a November 27, 2019, and an untitled Indiana Jones film will move from its previous July 19, 2019, date to July 10, 2020.  

TAISSA FARMIGA (Rules Don’t Apply) will play the title character in New Line’s upcoming horror-thriller The Nun.  The film is a spinoff of the character featured in The Conjuring 2.  Taissa’s older sister, Vera, portrayed the character of Elisabeth Warren in The Conjuring 2.

CHRIS PINE is in negotiations to star as Scottish King Robert the Bruce in the period drama Outlaw King.  David Mackenzie who directed Pine in Hell or High Water will write and direct the film.  Ben Foster, who co-starred in Hell or High Water may co-star in the film.

SETH ROGEN (Sausage Party) will voice the character of Timon in Disney’s reboot of The Lion King.  Billy Eichner will voice the character of Pumbaa.

SONY will distribute the firefighting action film Granite Mountain, starring Josh Brolin, Miles Teller and Jeff Bridges.  The studio will also distribute Soldado, the sequel to Sicario, which will star Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro.

UNIVERSAL is developing Blond Ambition, the film biography of pop star Madonna, with Michael De Luca, producer of Fifty Shades of Grey attached to produce the upcoming story about the singer’s rise to stardom.

"The Zookeeper's Wife"

Synopsis: Daniel Blake (Dave Johns), a 59-year-old carpenter living in Newcastle, England, has recently suffered a heart attack. Told by his doctor that he can't return to work, he applies for disability assistance. When his claim is denied, despite having papers from his doctor confirming his condition, Daniel has to sell off his furniture to survive. With no computer skills, he has a difficult time trying to find another way to make a living. Single mother Katie (Hayley Squires), who has two children by two different fathers, is also struggling to survive. She's been relocated from London to Newcastle, where the cost of living is cheaper. Even so, she goes without food and other basic necessities in order to make sure her kids have enough. When Daniel meets her at the welfare office, he becomes a grandfatherly figure to her kids and tries to help by making some repairs to the apartment where they live.
