MARGOT ROBBIE (Goodbye Christopher Robin) is in talks to portray Queen Elizabeth I in Focus Features upcoming Mary Queen of Scots.  The historical drama is based on Mary Stuart’s attempt to overthrow her cousin Queen Elizabeth I of England.  Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) will portray Mary.

JAMES CAMERON has announced the release dates for the next four Avatar sequels.  Avatar 2 is scheduled for December 18, 2020.  Avatar 3 will open on December 17, 2021, Avatar 4 on December 20, 2024, and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2025.

ANG LEE (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk) is in talks to direct the science-fiction action film Gemini Man.  The story is about an NSA agent who is about to retire, only to discover that he has been targeted by an assassin who is a younger cloned version of himself.

ANNA BODEN AND RYAN FLECK the co-directors of Mississippi Grind, will direct Marvel’s upcoming film Captain Marvel, with Brie Larson set to star in the title role.

FOX has announced a June 1, 2018, release date for Deadpool 2. In the film Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the R-rated superhero with Josh Brolin set to co-star in the role of Cable.

WILL SMITH (Collateral Beauty) is in talks to provide the voice of the Genie in Disney’s upcoming live-action version of Aladdin.  Guy Ritchie (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) will direct the film.

JASON CLARKE (Chappaquiddick) is in talks to join Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway in the thriller Serenity.

CLINT EASTWOOD (Sully) will direct The 5:17 to Paris, the true story of three American soldiers who stopped a terrorist plot on a train bound for Paris.  Warners will release the film.

FOX SEARCHLIGHT has announced a December 8, 2017, release date for director Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy film The Shape of Water.

LIONSGATE has acquired the rights to Smart House.  The upcoming film is based on an original idea by James Wan (Aquaman) about a family in the witness protection program who are housed in an autonomous “smart house.”  When a team of assassins targets the family, the house converts to lethal defense mode.

Synopsis: Michael (Oscar Isaac) is a humble Armenian medical student, who leaves his village of Siroun to study medicine in Constantinople. He then meets the beautiful Armenian artist Ana (Charlotte Le Bon), and the two bond over their shared heritage. However, Ana is in a relationship with American journalist Chris (Christian Bale). A romantic rivalry explodes between the two men amid the chaos of war as Constantinople crumbles under the falling Ottoman Empire and Armenians are targeted. Both men are struggling to stay alive while also fighting for their respective relationships with Ana.

Synopsis: Daniel Blake (Dave Johns), a 59-year-old carpenter living in Newcastle, England, has recently suffered a heart attack. Told by his doctor that he can't return to work, he applies for disability assistance. When his claim is denied, despite having papers from his doctor confirming his condition, Daniel has to sell off his furniture to survive. With no computer skills, he has a difficult time trying to find another way to make a living. Single mother Katie (Hayley Squires), who has two children by two different fathers, is also struggling to survive. She's been relocated from London to Newcastle, where the cost of living is cheaper. Even so, she goes without food and other basic necessities in order to make sure her kids have enough. When Daniel meets her at the welfare office, he becomes a grandfatherly figure to her kids and tries to help by making some repairs to the apartment where they live.
